Prisoner hanged in western Iran

Iran Human Rights (Nov 19 2017): A prisoner was executed at Ilam Central Prison (Western Iran) on murder charges.

According to a close source, on the morning of Saturday November 18, a prisoner was hanged at Ilam Central Prison.

The prisoner, identified as Alireza Sadeghi, was sentenced to death on the charge of murdering a man during a street fight.

“Alireza got into a fight with a man named Behruz Yekravi at Imam Square in Ilam two years ago and killed him with a knife,” said an informed source to Iran Human Rights (IHR).

The execution of this prisoner has not been announced by the state-run media so far.

According to Iran Human Rights annual report on the death penalty, 142 of the 530 execution sentences in 2016 were implemented due to murder charges.

There is a lack of a classification of murder by degree in Iran which results in issuing death sentence for any kind of murder regardless of intensity and intent.
